While watches can be considered as jewelry for some, it can also be viewed as an art or in some other cases, a technological marvel. The Rendez-Vouz Ivy Minute Repeater, in this case, managed to encompass all three aspects into a single watch. And yes, this is a highly complicated piece made for the female clientele.

The truth is, not many watchmakers like to place much emphasis on female watches. Quite a lot of them would just plonk diamonds or precious stones onto the watch dial or case, and the pieces are usually fitted with either a Quartz or a simple movement. While some of the watches actually does look decent, but there is literally little to no horological value to these pieces. And that is a pity, considering that some female collectors out there who craves for complicated watches. Some of them wore men’s pieces as an alternative. Nothing wrong, but wouldn’t it be better if they have complicated watches made for the female? That would be awesome, at least for the ladies.

During this year’s Watches and Wonder, JLC has introduced the Rendez-Vouz Ivy Minute Repeater. At first glance, this looks like another female timepiece that is encrusted with diamonds. But do not let that fool you. Underneath the 39mm white gold case that is adorned with approximately 548 diamonds (including those on both the case and the dial) lies something really special. And spectacular, to say the least.

As the name of the watch suggests, the JLC Rendez-Vouz Ivy Minute Repeater features the minute repeater complication. The minute repeater is activated by a pusher, instead of the usual trigger mechanism. Upon pressing the pusher, the minute repeater would chime, via the two patented trebuchet hammers which strikes another two crystal gongs. The gongs are connected to sapphire crystal, which in turn would accentuate the volume of the chime.

The JLC Rendez-Vouz Ivy Minute Repeater is powered by the JLC Caliber 942A. This is a new movement, created entirely for this timepiece. The self-winding movement provides a power reserve of approximately 43 hours. One interesting thing to note would be the safety mechanism for the minute repeater; the minute repeater will not be engaged again when the button is pushed twice successively, and this will reduce the damage to the watch.

We thought this was a rather interesting piece of haute horlogerie for the ladies. Sophisticated, and yet intriguing at the same time.

We thought that this watch is rather nicely done up; there is harmony between the aesthetics and the complications. A beautiful enamel dial, a diamond-studded white gold case, and a minute repeater complication. What else could you ask for? Hmmm, actually, we do have a request. The satin strap actually does look odd with the watch; I mean, it is like a mismatch of some sort. The satin strap seems a little casual, when it is being paired with such a dressy timepiece. We thought that it would look better with a nice crocodile or alligator strap. What do you all reckon?
