SIHH 2015: Jaeger LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Celestial

The distinctive seductive power of the Rendez-Vous Celestial lies in its ability to embellish the woman who wears it. Enriched by the expertise cultivated by the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux, the new Rendez-Vous Celestial by Jaeger-LeCoultre subtly distils its horological messages while also showcasing the beauty of a face exquisitely enhanced by Métiers Rares® (rare crafts).

In tribute to astronomy, its flamboyant finery reflects the colours of the sun through the unusual choice of  bordeaux aventurine. The sophisticated aesthetic of this radiant, fiery new creation exercises an irresistible magnetic attraction.

Rimmed with diamonds and exalted by aventurine, the dial provides a spectacularly beautiful space for the artistry of the gifted artisan. The hour numerals follow the curve of an entirely guilloché crescent shape. This graceful and delicate motif adorns the dial with a gently raised wave, reminiscent of the grand historical tradition of superbly ornate pocket watches.

The elliptical dial opening houses a disc bearing a sky chart. The mechanical automatic movement drives this disc at the almost imperceptible cadence of 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds – a highly symbolic figure for all those who are fascinated by astronomy. The eye darts from one constellation to the next, before losing itself in the infinity of the celestial canopy.
A splendid depiction of the zodiac portrays the sedate dance of the zodiac signs at 6 o’clock. Each of the 12 signs is said to correspond to certain character traits, while the zodiac as a whole is believed to reflect the entire range of distinctive features of the human soul. The signs of the zodiac, along with the various constellations, have been painted on the rotating dial. The artist has drawn inspiration from ancient depictions of the constellations to recreate a charming narrative.
