There is always this thing about vintage Heuer timepieces that will always tug our little heartstrings whenever we see them. Perhaps it is due to its iconic looks, or the wonderful and rich heritage that goes behind those charming timepieces. In this Baselworld, Tag Heuer will be launching two vintage inspired timepieces from the Carrera collection.
The Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 6, featuring a COSC-certified movement and a date display at the 6 o’clock position.
First up, we have the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 6. The Carrera Calibre 6 is a COSC-certified timepiece, and it features a sub-second hand and a date display. The automatic movement also features a power reserve of around 44 hours.
The design cues of the Carrera Calibre 6, as mentioned, is based on the vintage Heuer timepieces. The combination of red, blue, and silver further accentuates the vintage effect that this watch aims to achieve. We also particularly like shade of blue that Tag Heuer had used for the flange and the sub-second dial. The blue, in our opinion, compliments the silver sunburst dial and the white numerals rather well.
The 39mm steel timepiece will also features the iconic red “Heuer” logo. The timepiece, as shown in the picture, is fitted with a matching blue perforated calfskin strap and a polished steel folding clasp. The Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 6 will be retailing at CHF3,200, and it is available from March 2015 onwards.
The Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 18, a chronograph that features a date display at the 6 o’clock position.
Next, we have the more subdued Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 18. The Carrera Calibre 18 is an automatic watch that features a chronograph and a date display. It also features a telemeter scale, in which it was used in past by the military to calculate the distance of artillery fire. A redundant feature in today’s age, but a nice homage to past nevertheless.
The silver opalin dial, as well as the two black anthracite subdials at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock position, gives the watch a “panda-dial” effect. The contrast works very well here, and it allows the two subdials to stand out rather beautifully.
The 39mm Carrera Calibre 18 also features the vintage “Heuer” logo, albeit this one is in black instead of red as seen on the Carrera Calibre 6. This watch is fitted with a black perforated leather strap, and it is fitted with a steel folding clasp that features a “Heuer” logo as well. This particular timepiece will retail on July 2015, at the price of CHF5,900.
