Jaquet Droz presents the Grande Seconde Deadbeat, featuring a small complication that is quite special.
The new timepiece features the signature dial layout of Jaquet Droz that looks like the number 8. The hours and minutes are located at the 12 o’clock position. With the other models in the Grande Seconde range the running seconds hand usually occupies the lower part of the dial. For this new model the retrograde date occupies the lower portion of the dial.
The Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Deadbeat with a Grand Feu enamel dial
Deadbeat Seconds is the English translation for the French words “Seconde Morte”. The deadbeat seconds hand makes a jump every second in a ticking motion. In a normal mechanical watch the seconds hand makes its way around the dial in a gliding motion. It is a small complication but distinguishes the watch from other timepeices. Jaquet Droz utilized a 10-toothed cam rather than the 30-toothed variety normally used for a deadbeat seconds complication.
The deadbeat seconds for this new model have been placed on the central axis, allowing for an uninterrupted view of the seconds hand ticking around the dial.
In addition to the deadbeat seconds complication, the watch features a Grand Feu enameled dial in an Ivory colour.
This piece will be limited 88 pieces The individual number of the watch is placed at the 11 o’ clock position on the dial and on the caseback.
