We recently reviewed the TAG Heuer CARRERA Heuer-01 which is the backbone of the new collection of contemporary manufacture chronographs. It remains a price leader, fighting tooth and nail for every dollar and nearly tying with the Montblanc 4810 Automatic Chronograph for best value for money automatic chronographs. And now we receive information on a new COSC certified, automatic chronograph with Tourbillon priced below CHF 15,000. Here are the preliminary details of the TAG Heuer CARRERA Heuer-02T automatic chronograph tourbillon.

Two versions of the Heuer-02T are available, one non-limited and a special edition of only 250 examples with a blackened appearance, which TAG calls Black Phantom. The final price for the unlimited edition is not finalized, but we understand from TAG that this will be below CHF15,000.

The TAG Heuer CARRERA Heuer-02T Black Phantom. Limited to 250 pieces. Priced at a class breaking CHF 19,900
Developed using the CH-80 Chronograph as a base, the new movement runs at 28,800 bph. The tourbillon is flying, meaning it has no upper bridges, and can be viewed at 6 o’clock ont eh dial. The tourbillon cage is inspired by the Monaco V4’s tourbillon and has a rather interesting construction, the central sections are made from titanium and the top section is carbon. A power reserve of 65 hours is available from teh single barrel.

The fitting, assembly and adjustment is done by hand, and the main components are manufactured in-house. The balance spring is made by Atokalpa, a member of the Parmigiani Fleurier group.
Each Heuer-02T is COSC certified.
The case is in titanium, an is modular. We think we might see other material combinations, colors, treatments and finishing in future models utilizing the same case construction. Perhaps hinting more than slightly at stable-mate Hublot’s Fusion watches.
Design commentary on the Heuer-02T. Unusual for brands to release design documents, but this document was released as part of the Press Package. We think it is interesting as it shows some of the thought processes behind the design.
