The new Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition, from L to R, in Platinum, Steel with croc, steel with bracelet, and in red gold.

For Valentines’s Day and the start of the 68th 68th Berlin International Film Festival, Glashütte Original announces, via Live Streaming to Facebook and Instagram from the GQ Bar in Berlin, a new collection of 4 Senator Chronographs, to be known as the Capital Edition. This is an addition to the existing Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date line which we reviewed here.

Berlin, being the capital of Germany takes the honours in this new line extension: the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is presented in a stainless steel edition of 100, and a red gold version limited to 25 pieces, and in platinum in a limited edition of 5 pieces. The event livestream was also captured on YouTube, shown here:

The dynamic capital of Berlin inspired the collection and is the perfect backdrop for the premiere of the collection. New dials, fresh from the manufacture’s own dial facilities in Pforzheim are used. The red and steel versions feature the new smoky dials in a “Bourbon Grey” hue, and the platinum version is presented in a dial known as “Dry Silver:.

The dials, fashioned in-house, feature the hues “Bourbon Grey” for the models in stainless steel and red gold, and “Dry Silver” for the platinum version. All variants are highlited with beige, white and blue accent details.

In the dark, Super-LumiNova highlighting lends an impressive green glow to the white gold hour, minute and stop seconds hands, the Roman numerals at hours 6 and 12, and the hour indexes, assuring legibility.

Blue accents highlight the totalisers.

The totalisers are in deep blue and carry a contrasting shimmering solver ring surrounding the subdials.

The hands are in white gold, and the signature Glashütte Original Panorama Date is given clear pride of place at 6 o’clock, while the power reserve display is set discreetly within the small seconds.

The contrasting white stitching of the calfskin strap in brown or blue is a further, original element of style. The metal bracelet’s patented 8-step fine adjustment mechanism guarantees optimal comfort for the gentleman wearing the stainless steel version of the watch. The red gold and platinum versions of the Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition come in a special collector’s box, in which an additional strap will be included.

The movement is the tried and tested in-house manufacture Calibre 37: Robust, reliable and precise. The movement is a flyback chronograph beating at 4 Hz, with automatic winding and classical column wheel. The typical Glashütte features of the 3/4 plate, the screw balance and swan-neck fine adjustment are present, as is the skeletonised rotor with its 21k gold oscillating mass.
