The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph

The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph in 44m.

The Aikon series as we would have a familiar inkling for is the 2016 revival version of the Calypso, a highly regarded and well-recognized icon from Maurice Lacroix in the 1990s. One could tell immediately that the design of the new Aikon case has been rejuvenated with a sleeker look, featuring thicker raised edges at the top of the case front. The entire watch case on the Aikon Chronograph is decently made, with well-thought-out alternating satin and brushed finishing, allowing the watch to both capture and reflect light beautifully at different angles.

The silver sunburst dial on the Aikon Chronograph is an immediate draw for anyone looking at the watch initially, but it may also perpetually entice the wearer to rock their wrist back and forth while checking the time in order to observe the gorgeous beams radiating from the center of the dial.

The contrasting inner chapter ring matches the colour of the subdials creating good depth of field, allowing the light-coloured numerals to be easily read when using the chronograph function indicated by the central seconds hand.

With only two main colours, the piece exudes a strong and confident persona.

The first subdial at the 12 o’clock position is a 1/10 second counter. This would mean that you can use the watch to measure the precise 1/10th of a second accurately right down to the very fraction. The hand makes one revolution every second, in 10 discrete steps. Even if you don’t require this function, the sight of the counter sweeping rapidly each round is indeed quite mesmerising to look at.

At the 9 o’clock position is a slightly smaller subdial, featuring the chronograph counter of up to 30 minutes. The white date display sits well amicably on the continuous seconds hand subdial at the 6 o’clock position.

This dressy quartz chronograph will appeal those who prefer a low maintenance watch.

This entire timepiece delivers superb value, from the thoughtful dial to the finishing of the case and its robust bracelet, providing comfort to the wearer. We reviewed the 2017 Masterpiece Gravity Blue earlier and you should definitely give that review a read again especially if you are joining our giveaway contest.
