Dear Santa: A Christmas Wishlist 3

When you see the streets and malls decked with Christmas decorations and stores playing Christmas hits, you know it’s that time of the year again. That time of the year where Santa goes through his list to decide who’s been good or naughty over the year.

I have always liked the Christmas season since I was a kid because this is the time where you can dream and draw up a list of things you hope Santa will take notice of and fill your Christmas stockings come Christmas night. After many considerations, I present to you my wishlist for Christmas 2016:

Chopard Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition

The creation of the Mille Miglia series by Chopard was driven by their love for fine mechanics and car races. One of the striking features of the 2016 model which we previously reviewed here, is the inclusion of three subdials for the chronograph function and the addition of it gives the dial a sophisticated and complex look that is appealing. The two traditional pushers and a fluted crown adds to give the watch a sporty look.

What I also do like about the 2016 edition is the fact that it is powered by a new movement that is made entirely in-house by Chopard. The Chopard Calibre 03.05-C is also chronometer-certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), ensuring its accuracy and reliability even in the most competitive conditions. Priced at S$14,060, the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race edition is within a reasonable price range and ideal as a Christmas gift.

Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor Ref. 116621

At Baselworld 2016, we see the release of many new Rolex models such as the Air King and the new Daytona that featured a ceramic bezel. One of the new models that immediately caught my eye was the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Everose Rolesor. The perfect combination of 904L stainless steel and 18ct Everose Gold was love at first sight as the contrast between these two precious metals gives the watch an outstanding profile.

A perfect combination of colours gives the watch a unique appeal to most.

The sunburst chocolate dial along with the light pinkish bezel which we previously described here as resembling the colour of a Root Beer, gives the watch a well-balanced look to it. Also, one of the unique features of this release is the printing of the word “Yacht-Master” in red which clearly differentiates itself from other Rolex models such as the submariner in general.

Christophe Claret Layla

The Christophe Claret was designed with one goal in mind and that is to answer the paramount question of “Does he love me?”. Like many Christophe Claret creation, this timepiece demonstrated to us once again why watchmaking is truly an art.

The Christophe Claret Layla features a sophisticated mechanism that helps one to predict an answer for the paramount question.

The watch contains a sophisticated mechanism designed to help the user predict an answer for the golden question and each press of pusher located at the 2 o’clock position would cause a petal or two to disappear and the eventual answer would appear at the 4 o’clock position. For a more detailed understanding of how this unique mechanism works, check out our previous review of this timepiece here

One of the more incredible features of this piece is the fact that the movement of the watch had to be adapted to account for the right-to-left direction of Arabic script and the dial features engraved verses penned by the Arab poet, Qays Al Mulawwah. This is a masterpiece and a great expression of love, a worthy addition to any collection.

Nomos Lambda

What I like about the Nomos Lambda is its simple and elegant design. As covered in our review here, the 42 mm case is a huge plus point as it fits well for many users and this coupled with a thin profile of merely 8.9 mm makes this an excellent dress watch to have. The Lambda is powered by an in-house movement in the form of the DUW 1001, showcasing the engineering prowess of Nomos and how it seeks to establish itself further with its own design of systems.

Simple and elegant, a wonderful choice for a dress watch.

One of the striking features of the Lambda would have to be its dial, only containing simple elements to it thus making it so unique. This is where one can clearly see the power reserve indication where it boasts a power reserve of up to 84 hours which is very impressive. Priced at S$ 23,430 for the Rose Gold and S$ 25,120 for the White Gold, the Nomos Lambda is surely a good buy for most and would serve to be an ideal gift for Christmas.
