Baselworld 2016: H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Perpetual Calendar, with Pricing

Launched last year, the H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer collection is an intriguing addition to the family. The watchmaker, notably, is known for its classic and practical dress watches. However, the Pioneer collection is an antithesis to the traditional dress watches that the company produces, with its sporty appearance and the casual rubber strap. This year, H. Moser & Cie. had decided to incorporate the Perpetual Calendar into the Pioneer collection, with the all new Pioneer Perpetual Calendar.

The idea behind the creation of the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar is simple: the watchmaker aims to produce a perpetual calendar that is very robust, comfortable to wear, and fairly easy to use. It is summed up nicely by Edouard Meylan, the CEO of H. Moser & Cie.: “Without a doubt, the perpetual calendar is the most useful complication of all. But, because the mechanism can be fragile, it is often kept safely hidden away in a box. With the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar, we wanted to create a piece that is perfect for everyday wear, on land or in water, with its complex mechanism protected in a lightweight, robust and watertight case.”

The 42.8mm watch is fitted with a 5N red gold modular case, featuring some components that are finished in black DLC titanium. The red gold case is contrasted with an ardoise fumé dial, with matching red gold leaf-shaped hands that are filled with Superluminova. In addition, there are luminescent markers at the flange of the hour markers to improve the practicality of the timepiece.

The movement that powers the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar is H. Moser & Cie.’s in-house HMC 800. It is a hand-wound movement, featuring the double barrels system which guarantees a power reserve of at least 7 days. In addition, the watch features its legendary perpetual flash calendar complication, and a power reserve indicator at the 9 o’clock position of the dial.

The Pioneer Perpetual Calendar retails at CHF 49,900, and it can be fitted with either the black alligator leather or a rubber strap. Do check out their website here for more information
