SIHH 2016: Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie, with Pricing

In last year’s SIHH, we saw the inception of Mont Blanc’s Heritage Chronometrie collection. We have reviewed some of the watches in the collection, such as the Ultra-Slim and the Dual Time Vasco Da Gama Limited Edition 238, and they yielded positive sentiments among the editorial team.

This year, Mont Blanc has decided to add two more new models into this incredible collection: one with an in-house manufacture date complication, and another that features both the annual calendar and a chronograph.

The first watch that we have here is the new Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Collection Twincounter Date, a dressy timepiece that features both the date and the subsidiary seconds hand function.

The Twincounter Date, notably, features Montblanc’s Caliber MB24.23 automatic movement. It is an in-house movement that features a date display, and a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. One point to note would be the watch’s twin sub-dials: one features the date indicator, and the other is fitted with a subsidiary seconds counter. We think that this is a nice touch, as it makes the watch looks more symmetrical and balanced. Interestingly, this dial layout was inspired by Minerva Chronograph’s in the 1950s, in which the use of a double chronograph counter was popular.

At 40mm, we think that the Twincounter Date is sized rather nicely. The stainless steel timepiece is paired with a silver sunburst dial, and it is fitted with an alligator strap that is made by Montblanc Pelletteria. The watch is priced reasonably at €2,850, and we feel that it is an appropriate choice for someone who wants to own a dressy and well-built luxury timepiece without burning a large hole in their pockets.

Next up, we have the Heritage Chronométrie Chronograph Quantième Annuel. This, incidentally, is the first time that Montblanc has produced a timepiece that features both the annual calendar and chronograph function.

At the first glance, it seems like the entire timepiece is a little convoluted. This is not surprising, considering that the four sub-dials are fitted with both the indicators for the chronograph and the annual calendar complications. But Montblanc differentiated the functions brilliantly using different colored hands: blue for the chronographs, and gold for time-keeping and the annual calendar functions. Not only does that help in the functionality of the timepiece, but it also gives the timepiece some contrast.

The Chronograph Quantième Annuel is fitted with Montblanc’s MB25.09. This is an automatic movement, which features the above-mentioned complications and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The annual calendar can be adjusted via the four correctors on the case, using a special Montblanc pin that is delivered together with this timepiece.

This 42mm is currently available with a red gold case, and it is paired with a beautiful alligator strap that is similarly produced by Montblanc Pelletteria. The Chronograph Quantième Annuel will retail at €18,900.
