At Baselworld, Patek Philippe always receives much fanfare, with the media and collectors around the world waiting to see the latest creations.  For Baselworld 2016, Patek Philippe has combined two complications, the world time and chronograph into one elegant looking timepiece.  Introducing the Patek Philippe World Time Chronograph Ref. 5930G.

Patek Philippe have used a lovely shade of blue for the city disc and the centre part of the dial which has been guilloched by hand.  The watch has a 39.5mm case made from 18k white gold.  The world time complication allows the wearer to track the timezone of multiple cities around the world at a glance.  The wearer can use the pusher located at the 10 o ‘clock position to adjust the time of the cities by a 1 hour increment, allowing for a  quick time zone adjustment.

The Patek Philippe World Time Chronograph Ref. 5930G

Patek Phillipe have only ever made one watch with a world timer and chronograph that is known.  It was made in the in 1940s and featured a dial with pulsimeter and asthmometer scales.   Patek have used this vintage model as the inspiration for creating the Ref 5930G.

The Ref 1415 made in the 1940s with world timer and chronograph

Powering the Ref 5930G is the Caliber CH 28-520 HU Self-winding mechanical movement.   Axes were shifted, bridges thinned and newly designed, and component clearances changed such that the caliber CH 28-520 HU can legitimately be called a new movement.   The chronograph is a flyback and can be reset back to zero to start timing a new event without having to stop it.  Because the chronograph hand is powered via a vertical clutch, it can also be used as a permanently running seconds hand without risking undue wear and without affecting the rate accuracy and power reserve of the watch.  The chronograph can time up to a maximum of 30 minutes.

To match the shade of the dial, the Ref 5930G comes on a hand-stitched matt navy blue alligator strap.  An 18K white-gold Calatrava fold-over clasp keeps the watch comfortably secured to the wrist.

The Reference 5930G will retail for US$ 73,712.

We think the Ref 5930 stands out and love the use of guilloche to draw the eye to the watch.  Stay tuned for a hands on review and live pictures when we take a closer look at this lovely timepiece.
