Baselworld 2016: Grand Seiko Spring Drive 8 Day Power Reserve with pricing

Seiko produces some fantastic watches throughout all of its lines, especially the Grand Seiko collection which is held in very high regard.  For Baselworld 2016, Seiko is presenting a new model for the Grand Seiko line that looks very clean and  has a brand new calibre powering it.  Introducing the Grand Seiko Spring Drive 8 Day Power Reserve.

This is the very first Grand Seiko watch to have been created by the celebrated Micro Artist Studio in Seiko’s facility in Shiojiri in the Nagano prefecture of central Japan. Like the diamond-dust sparkle of snow that shimmers in the morning light in the clear mountain air of the area around the Studio, the dial glistens with a subtle and unusual beauty. The five-faceted hour and minutes hands, one of the iconic characteristics of Grand Seiko, are longer than those on any previous Grand Seiko watches.

The 43mm case is made of a special platinum that can be polished to a sparkling mirror finish using the Zaratsu technique, itself adapted for working with platinum.

The razor sharp sliver hour and minute hands and the lovely blued steel seconds hand of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive 8 Day Power Reserve.

The manually wound 9R01 Spring Drive caliber, through three barrels offers an eight-day power reserve.  To keep the dial looking clean the power reserve indicator has been placed on the back of the movement.

The 9R01 Spring Drive manually wound movement which is hand finished.

On the back, a sapphire case back allows for a clear view of the exquisite finishing of the one-piece bridge and jewels.  This one-piece bridge ensures the precise positioning of each wheel in the gear train and maximizes the efficiency of the transmission of power from the barrels. Its rigidity also prevents distortion in the event of impact or other shock.

We are big fans of Seiko at Deployant and this new model looks stunning.  Everything from the dial texture to the hand finishing of the movement just is spot on.  This new movement has been finely tuned and .5 +/- of a second a day accuracy is making a statement.

Well done Seiko!

The Grand Seiko Spring Drive 8 Day Power Reserve will retail for approximately 60,000
